Maha Shakti Yoga is the path of the Divine Inner Energy, or Kundalini Shakti. In this tradition, all practices and philosophical frameworks aim to support the unfoldment of the Kundalini Process.
Philosophically, Maha Shakti Yoga draws from several different systems, which share the common view that Divinity is inherent in all creation (the world). Everything that we perceive is the movement of conscious energy. According to Tantric thought, this energy in its dynamic state is viewed as the Feminine principle (Shakti). The same energy when static is seen as the Masculine principle (Shiva). Just as in a painting, we do not differentiate between the canvas (stillness) and the paint (dynamism), Shiva and Shakti are one and inseparable.
Shakti is considered to have five main functions: Creation, Preservation, Destruction, Concealment, and Revealment. Of these functions, that which is most relevant to the seeker is the Revealing principle, or Guru principle. The Guru is seen as the instrument of this function by initiating the Kundalini process. Through this process, a more direct connection to the Divine Energy is made possible.
An ongoing relationship with the Guru is essential in supporting the Kundalini process. The Guru, by the very nature of His/Her innate connection with the Shakti, helps to insure that It works smoothly. The Guru also provides practices and techniques to help focus one's spiritual life and make oneself available for Divine Grace. These practices include meditation, mantra japa, chanting of scriptures, puja, yajna, and seva.
From a practical standpoint, Maha Shakti Yoga offers a simple, down-to-earth approach to daily life. The teachings are centered around engaging in life in such a way that we are not dominated by it. We learn to see the situations of daily life as opportunities for spiritual development, rather than as obstacles. Eventually, the distinction between spiritual and worldly life drops away as we began to realize that the Divine is available in all circumstances.
Through the path of Maha Shakti Yoga, we are thus developing a unified view of reality - a view which is not a dry, intellectual concept, but which is supported by the tangible experience of the Living Energy of the Divine.
